What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
(The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption
in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings
and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer distribution?
What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?
You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Education isn’t everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. You make the call.
“Some people think that the Federal Reserve Banks are United States Government institutions. They are private monopolies which prey upon the people of these United States for the benefit of themselves and their foreign customers; foreign and domestic speculators and swindlers; and rich and predatory money lenders.”
–The Honorable Louis McFadden, Chairman of the House Banking and Currency Committee in 1932. (For McFadden’s complete speech, click here.)
What the heck, here’s another quote:
It is well enough that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. — Henry Ford
The Washington Post revealed on Wednesday that there are two more top secret memos, coming from the White House, authorizing the CIA to use torture on their prisoners. The memos were issued in 2003 and 2004.
The Post article recounts two versions of reality by unnamed CIA officials—on the one hand saying the agency was concerned about using torture and wanted, in writing, that authorization was coming from the top; and another view saying the CIA badgered the Bush Administration into giving its approval in writing.
The article reveals that there were many meetings with the Exectutive and Judicial brances of government, but that George Bush was not there. An excerpt:
“In interviews, the officials recounted a series of private briefings about the [torture] program with members of the administration’s security team, including Rice and Cheney, followed by more formal meetings before a larger group including then-Attorney General John D. Ashcroft, then-White House counsel Alberto R. Gonzales and then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. None of the officials recalled President Bush being present at any of the discussions.
“Several of the key meetings have been previously described in news articles and books, but Rice last month became the first Cabinet-level official to publicly confirm the White House’s awareness of the program in its earliest phases.”

Remember the S&L scandal? In the 1980s, banks called Savings & Loans were deregulated. It took ten years of faulty accounting, and the banks collapsed. John McCain (and 5 other Congressmen) was involved in the scandal.
Similarly with today’s crisis, it took just ten years after deregulation of the investment banks and insurance companies for the entire system to collapse.
As this 13 minute video points out, these fraudulent practices should be punished, not bailed out…. Oh, did you notice? The $700 billion bailout didn’t work.
